Time and Distance

Walking safaris are typically conducted during the cooler parts of the day to enhance comfort and maximize wildlife sightings. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Best Time for Walking Safaris: Early morning (around 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM) and late afternoon (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM) when the temperatures are lower, and animals are more active.
  • Distance: Walking safaris can vary in length, usually covering 5-10 kilometers (3-6 miles) per day, depending on the fitness level of participants and specific itinerary.

What to Do

To make the most of your walking safari experience, follow these guidelines:

  • Wear Appropriate Clothing: Dress in neutral-colored clothing to blend in with the surroundings. Long sleeves and trousers are recommended to protect against sun and insects.
  • Comfortable Footwear: Wear sturdy, comfortable hiking boots that are well broken in to avoid blisters and provide ankle support.
  • Stay Hydrated: Carry enough water to stay hydrated throughout the walk. A small, refillable water bottle is ideal.
  • Use Sun Protection: Apply sunscreen, wear a hat, and use sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.
  • Carry Minimal Gear: Bring only essential items such as water, a camera, binoculars, and a small backpack. Keep your load light to enjoy the walk more comfortably.
  • Listen to Your Guide: Our experienced guides are there to ensure your safety and enrich your experience with insights about the wildlife and ecosystem. Follow their instructions closely.
  • Stay Together: Always stay with the group and keep close to the guide to avoid getting lost or disturbing wildlife.

What Not to Do

To ensure a safe and enjoyable walking safari, avoid the following:

  • Do Not Stray from the Group: Venturing off on your own can be dangerous and disrupt the wildlife. Always stay within sight of your guide.
  • Avoid Loud Noises: Keep noise to a minimum to prevent scaring off animals and to maintain the serenity of the experience.
  • Do Not Approach Wildlife: Maintain a respectful distance from animals. Getting too close can be dangerous for both you and the animals.
  • Avoid Sudden Movements: Sudden movements can startle wildlife and potentially provoke dangerous responses.
  • Do Not Leave Litter: Ensure you carry out all your waste to preserve the natural environment. Leave no trace of your presence behind.
